Bzzzzzt

Bees have a secret life that its not much of a secret. They are great pollinators, along with butterflies, wasps, moths, flies, beetles and a host of other things. Bees just like mountain lions have a place in this world, but neither should be in your backyard. Bees can be dangerous especially if you don’t know if you are allergic to their stings or if a neighbor’s kid sees them there and does something to irritate them, this can lead to other issues.

Once a new queen is created in an already established Hive. She will swarm, taking about 2 to 5 thousand bees with her. They will travel around resting in a large cluster about the size of a basketball for about a week looking for a place to establish a new hive. Scouts will leave from the cluster looking for a new place then if a suitable place is found they will do their little bee dance to get the queen to follow them to their new home.

Typically bees like a place with walls that can keep them safe from the elements and away from predators. Wall voids, roofs, chimneys, and even water boxes are common places to get bees on your property. If left unchecked, they hive will grow bigger and bigger producing new queens to spread more onto your property or to your neighbors.

Some hives are aggressive and may attack if you get too close, so always give them a wide berth if you are unsure. Some older hives may become aggressive over time. This can become a problem for your family and neighbors. It is best to have a professional take care of the issue before it turns into a real problem.
